BOSTON, May 10 (UPI) -- Boston authorities said an 8-year-old boy who took his mother's BMW for a joyride ended up lodged in a collapsing porch.

The Boston Fire Department said crews responded around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to Mascot Street, where they found the white BMW jammed into a neighbor's porch, the Boston Herald reported Thursday.

"He somehow popped into reverse, raced across the street, between two parked cars with about a foot to spare on each side going an estimate of 30 miles per hour into the porch," said Deputy Fire Chief Robert Dunderdale. "It compromised the entryway of this porch."

A relative said the boy, who escaped impaling by boards that crashed through the rear windshield all the way to the front windshield, was not injured.

Police estimated the house incurred about $80,000 in damage and the $50,000 car sustained "at least $20,000 in damages," officials said.
