Woman runs over husband in voting dispute

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis., May 9 (UPI) -- A woman intent on voting for one candidate in Wisconsin's gubernatorial recall primary election ran over her estranged husband, who backed another, police say.

A police report stated the incident involved Amanda Radle, 30, a recall proponent, and Jeffery Radle, 36, who supports recall target Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

"She was planning on voting for a certain candidate and it wasn't the candidate he wanted her to vote for," Chippewa Falls Police Chief Wendy L. Stelter said.

Police said after the two argued, Jeffery Radle stubbornly stood in his estranged wife's path and at one point jumped on the vehicle hood as she was trying to drive to the polls Tuesday, the Chippewa Falls Herald and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. She allegedly didn't let his presence deter her and struck him with her sport utility vehicle, inflicting head, neck and back injuries that sent him to the hospital and led to her arrest, the newspapers said.

Amanda Radle was arrested after going to the Chippewa Falls Police Department to report the incident. She was released on $500 signature bond on possible domestic battery and second-degree recklessly endangering safety charges. She was ordered not to have any contact with her estranged husband and a court hearing was set for May 22.

Jeffery Radle was hospitalized in stable condition.

Stelter said she didn't know which candidate Amanda Radle favored but her husband's brother, Mike Radle, said it was "one of the women candidates," which would have been either former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk or state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett won the Democratic primary and will face Walker in the June recall election.

It wasn't reported whether Amanda Radle cast a vote.
