ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., May 9 (UPI) -- The captain of a fishing charter boat in Florida said he and his cameraman were shocked when a 40-pound barracuda jumped onto the boat.

Kevin Faver of St. Augustine said he was out on his boat Sunday with Bill Pollackov, who serves as producer and videographer for Faver's TV series, "Tails from the Outdoors Fishing Show," when he got a bite from a fish near the ocean floor, The St. Augustine Record reported Wednesday.

"I was bottom fishing so I had the drag locked down … . It peeled off line, went about 30 feet out and turned. I thought it was a kingfish or cobia," Faver said. "What's weird is that the rod was still bent like he was running out, but I guess he has so much slack in the line from running back at us."

Faver said he and Pollackov were then confronted with "5 feet of flying teeth" headed straight toward the captain's head.

The captain said he dodged the fish and was able to throw it back off the boat with a gaff hook.

"We always preach safety, but there was no way to see that coming. There was so much line out so fast … then that fish turned and was ready to torpedo my head," Faver said.

"In 28 years of charter fishing, nothing like that's ever happened to me. And I never want it to happen again."
