ALTADENA, Calif., May 4 (UPI) -- Authorities in California said a mother black bear and her two cubs headed back into the wilderness after spending the day in a residential neighborhood.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the California black bears, which actually have brown fur, were first spotted eating leftover birthday cake from a garbage can in an Altadena man's driveway Thursday morning and they spent most of the morning and afternoon nursing and napping in a pair of nearby trees, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
The sheriff's department said the bears wandered the area a bit before heading back into the wilderness around sunset.
