Advertisement Longview police said the suspect, described as a white man wearing a black hat, a black leather jacket and jeans, was approached by a security guard who suspected him of shoplifting at the Fred Meyer store around 12:30 p.m. Monday and the man brandished a 2-foot samurai sword and waved it at the guard, The (Longview) Daily News reported Wednesday. Longview police spokesman Sgt. John Reeves said the suspect had been attempting to take a pair of boots and some alcohol, but he dropped them while fleeing. Police said they are attempting to identify the suspect. Judge rules against lotto trash picker Advertisement BEEBE, Ark., May 2 (UPI) -- An Arkansas judge ruled in favor of a woman who tossed a winning lottery ticket in the trash, only for it to be removed by another woman. White County Judge Thomas Hughes ruled Tuesday Sharon Duncan is the rightful owner of the $1 million ticket, which she tossed in the trash at a Beebe convenience store when a scanner at the shop erroneously told her, "Sorry, not a winner," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday. An attorney for Sharon Jones, who pulled the ticket from the trash and attempted to claim the prize, said the decision will be appealed. Parking spots barred for non-existent work STUDIO CITY, Calif., May 2 (UPI) -- Business owners in Studio City, Calif., said they are frustrated by losing parking spots to water pipe and road work that has yet to begin. Levon Kayaoglu of Levon's Hair Color Salon, one of more than a dozen shops to have its parking spaces temporarily barred by the Studio City Department of Water and Power more than three weeks ago, said no city employees have been seen working in the area, the Los Angeles Daily News reported Tuesday. Kayaoglu and other business owners said losing the parking spaces has been hurting their bottom line. Advertisement "It's killing us, big time. This is the last nail in the coffin," he said. The Daily News said the no-parking signs were removed Tuesday after a reporter called officials to inquire about the work. Soda toss results in felony charges GAINESVILLE, Fla., May 2 (UPI) -- A Florida Taco Bell customer accused of shutting down the eatery's computer network by throwing soda on a cash register was charged with a felony. The Gainesville Police Department said Suresh Chapman, 30, was upset about his order not being prepared correctly Sunday night so he threw his soda on the cash register, causing the restaurant's computer network to go down for several hours, the Gainesville Sun reported Wednesday. Police said officials with the Taco Bell location said the damage cost about $2,500 to repair and the eatery lost about $3,000 in revenue as a result of the damage. Chapman was charged with a second-degree felony of damaging a computer resulting in a loss of $5,000 or more and a probation violation from a 2011 child abuse case. He was ordered held without bail.
