Soda toss results in felony charges

GAINESVILLE, Fla., May 2 (UPI) -- A Florida Taco Bell customer accused of shutting down the eatery's computer network by throwing soda on a cash register was charged with a felony.

The Gainesville Police Department said Suresh Chapman, 30, was upset about his order not being prepared correctly Sunday night so he threw his soda on the cash register, causing the restaurant's computer network to go down for several hours, the Gainesville Sun reported Wednesday.

Police said officials with the Taco Bell location said the damage cost about $2,500 to repair and the eatery lost about $3,000 in revenue as a result of the damage.

Chapman was charged with a second-degree felony of damaging a computer resulting in a loss of $5,000 or more and a probation violation from a 2011 child abuse case. He was ordered held without bail.
