LONGVIEW, Wash., May 2 (UPI) -- Police in Washington state said they are searching for an attempted shoplifter who pulled a samurai sword on a security guard who attempted to stop him.

Longview police said the suspect, described as a white man wearing a black hat, a black leather jacket and jeans, was approached by a security guard who suspected him of shoplifting at the Fred Meyer store around 12:30 p.m. Monday and the man brandished a 2-foot samurai sword and waved it at the guard, The (Longview) Daily News reported Wednesday.

Longview police spokesman Sgt. John Reeves said the suspect had been attempting to take a pair of boots and some alcohol, but he dropped them while fleeing.

Police said they are attempting to identify the suspect.
