MORRISON, Colo., April 26 (UPI) -- The Colorado State Patrol is inviting lead-footed teen drivers to "take it to the track" as an alternative to illegal street racing.

Col. James Wolfinbarger, chief of the Colorado State Patrol, said the program lasts for 22 Wednesdays at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison and is open to anyone with a valid driver's license.

"Our Take It To The Track program, which begins its 9th season, is the safe and positive alternative to illegal street racing," Wolfinbarger said. "Responsible speed is what we're trying to stress to young adult drivers. To let them know that they can have fun and learn about making smart driving choices by participating in the program.

"To date, more than 40,000 participants have taken part in the program and have made nearly a half million safe runs down the track since we began the program," Wolfinbarger said, adding participants can pick up free passes to the events at state patrol troop offices or various other law enforcement facilities in the state.
