Internal affairs investigators said in a report released Monday Erik Knutsen was fired in February at the end of an investigation that determined he embarrassed the agency, lied on reports and skipped official calls to remain at clubs including The Booby Trap, The Cheetah III and Allstar's -- all outside his zone of responsibility, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Tuesday.
Knutsen had been with the agency for nearly five years and was earning $53,060 a year at the time of his dismissal.
"I'm not a bad person,'' Knutsen told investigators in a sworn statement. "I just sometimes do dumb things.''
Knutsen, who the Sun Sentinel said could not be reached for comment, is still certified to work as a law enforcement officer in Florida.
