THE WOODLANDS, Texas, April 23 (UPI) -- Authorities in Texas said a deputy was struck by a drunk driver while helping a colleague dealing with a suspect trying to kick out a patrol car window.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said Calli Dretke, 25, struck multiple sheriff's office vehicles, including a Breath Alcohol Testing Van, while they were stopped along a road about 2 a.m. Sunday to assist a colleague who had a suspect attempting to kick his way out a patrol car window, the Montgomery County Police Reporter said.
The sheriff's office said a deputy was standing near his car and jumped onto the hood when Dretke's vehicle struck, leaving him with a broken leg.
The deputy is expected to make a full recovery.
Dretke was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of intoxicated assault on a peace officer.
