Gov. Christie denies he slept at Springsteen show

TRENTON, N.J., April 20 (UPI) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he was not sleeping at a Bruce Springsteen concert earlier this month -- he was reflecting on the music.

Christie, who was reported to have fallen asleep at the Boss' concert earlier this month at Madison Square Garden in New York, said he never fell asleep at the show, but he did close his eyes to listen to "Rocky Ground," a new tune the governor described as "spiritual," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday.

"This shows you the level of intrusiveness now into my life: some joker taking pictures of me at Madison Square Garden," Christie said.

The governor called his deputy chief of staff, Deborah Gramiccioni, who was also at the concert, to the front of a news conference Thursday to back up his story.
