Liquid concrete floods upscale New York hotel

NEW YORK, April 19 (UPI) -- Workers at an upscale New York hotel said the facility was flooded with liquid concrete from a construction project next door.

Hotel staff at Le Parker Meridien, which costs an average $600 per night, said concrete began to flow into the hotel from a 29-story construction project next door around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials said there were no injuries, and workers moved quickly to remove the concrete in wheelbarrows and hose down furniture on the sidewalk outside.

A construction worker from the hotel project next door said the concrete flowed into Le Parker Meridien when a wooden retaining wall failed.

An official with the city Department of Buildings said inspectors will determine whether the retaining wall was properly built. Contractor DiFama Concrete was issued a partial stop-work order Tuesday for using an unlicensed crane operator.
