EVANSTON, Ill., April 17 (UPI) -- A suburban Chicago cafe owner has filed a lawsuit against her former chef for removing notebooks containing her recipes, her attorney said.

Susan Davis Friedman, owner of the Fraiche Bakery Cafe in Evanston, Ill., told the Chicago Tribune the suit was filed five days after learning she would have to go to court to get her notebooks back from the unidentified chef.

They contain the only copies of recipes the lawsuit said "were developed, assembled, tested and honed over the course of 3 1/2 years."

The cafe featured a doughnut-like muffin known as the Cinnamon Bomb that the entertainment magazine TimeOut Chicago called "addictive."

A local lifestyle magazine said Fraiche's cupcakes were the best on the North Shore.
