SEATTLE, April 12 (UPI) -- A trio of Seattle firefighters said they rescued 13 ducklings that apparently fell down a storm drain while walking with their mother.

The firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a report of ducklings trapped in the 116th Avenue Southeast storm drain, and they reached into the drain and pulled the baby birds to safety, Seattlepi.com reported Thursday.

"They placed the ducklings in a bucket and released them in the pond across the street," Deputy Fire Marshal Don Barberie said. "The mother duck, who had been flying around watching the rescue, returned to the pond to care for her ducklings."
