WESTON, Fla., April 11 (UPI) -- A southern Florida city passed an ordinance banning nightclubs, dance halls and skating rinks from the city limits.

Weston City Manager John Flint said skating rinks were included in the ordinance, which alters the city's zoning code, to prevent a temporary skating rink from being set up to conceal a nightclub or dance hall, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Mayor Eric Hersh said officials were already working to keep such businesses out of Weston and there were no current applications to open any of the banned business types in the city, but the ordinance was seen as a tool to help the city prevent the issue from arising in the future.

Hersh and Flint said the businesses are not welcome in Weston due to the large crowds and crime officials fear they would bring to the area.
