Carey Knight and Travis Fleming, waste water operators for the city of Kuna, said the diamond ring they found last week while performing maintenance in the Goldcreek subdivision is the most valuable item they have found in their more than eight years on the job, KBOI-TV, Boise, Idaho, reported Tuesday.
"I thought it was fake at first," Knight said. "After I got it cleaned up I could tell it was real."
Knight said there is no way of knowing how long the ring was in the sewer.
Fleming said the ring might belong to a woman who called a few years ago to report a lost ring, but he does not have any contact information for the woman.
The men took the ring to Kuna Mayor Greg Nelson's office the day after making their discovery.
"[It's nice to know] that we have honest and caring employees that actually are trying to get the ring back to its owner," Nelson said.
