HOLFORD, England, April 8 (UPI) -- A British police squad detonated a grenade found during a children's Easter egg hunt, officials said.
A family participating in an Easter hunt in Holford, England, Saturday discovered what appeared to be a grenade while searching for eggs, This is Somerset reported.
The family alerted police, who quickly cordoned off the area and part of a nearby road as part of safety precautions.
The Explosives Ordnance Disposal then carried out a controlled explosion.
"The EOD has attended the scene and destroyed the object in a controlled explosion," said an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman.
"The cordon has been lifted and the local community are thanked for their patience while this incident was dealt with," he said.
