N.Y. men make kosher sausage for Passover

NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- A New York kosher meat and deli business said it has created the world's first sausage that is kosher for Passover.

Jack Silberstein, 26, and Alan Broner, 64, owners of Jack's Gourmet in the city's Crown Heights neighborhood, said most sausages are banned during Passover, the Jewish holiday that begins at sundown Friday, because they contain starchy ingredients, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

However, the pair said they created their Spicy Southwestern and Beef Kielbasa links using a secret recipe with only ingredients allowed by Jewish law during the holiday.

"I did a lot of research and found all the spices that I was allowed to use," Silberstein said.

The pair said their next plan is to create a kosher version of bacon without using pork, which is banned completely from the kosher diet.
