BALLWIN, Mo., April 4 (UPI) -- Police in Missouri said an intruder reported by a man who arrived home to a broken window and noise coming from his basement turned out to be a turkey.

The Ballwin Police Department said Kevin Corrigan called 911 after arriving home to find broken glass on the floor and the counter near his back door and hearing sounds coming from his basement, KPLR-TV, St. Louis, reported Wednesday.

Officers arrived at the home a few moments later and discovered the intruder was a wild turkey that had broken a window to enter the home.

Sgt. Jim Heldmann said the turkey seemed tired but uninjured save for losing a few feathers.

"The bird had been through enough and was kind of worn out. They were able to get the bird into a net and carry it out the door," Heldmann said of the responding officers.

The sergeant said the turkey was released.
