Swedish papers try to fool readers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 1 (UPI) -- Swedish newspapers took part in April Fools Day by printing outlandish stories such as elderly people being forced back to work after being caught dancing.

Several media sources got in on the fun Sunday by printing hoax stories, The Local reported.

The Arbetarbladet newspaper printed the headline "If you can jive, you can work" and reported that a team of "jive spies" secretly recorded elderly people dancing and concluded that if senior citizens can dance, they can work.

Other gag stories included local saxophonist Micke Finell leaving the country to replace the late Clarence Clemons in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

"Still, there remains a number of gigs before the leaving party. It's only April 1st after all," Finell was quoted as saying.

The Local reported a ban on young people shaving that would bar anyone under 18 from purchasing shaving products.

All of the stories raised some suspicion among readers, The Local said.
