WUPPERTAL, Germany, March 31 (UPI) -- An audience at the Wuppertal Zoo in Germany got the first glimpse of Anori, a polar bear born Jan. 4, zoo officials said.

Anori walked out into a small outdoor enclosure with her mother, Vilma, for the first time Thursday, CNN reported. Since her birth in January, Anori has been learning to walk and climb -- efforts that have been captured by the zoo's security cameras.

The cub is the half sister of Knut, a who became an Internet star after he was abandoned by his mother and hand-raised by a zookeeper. Knut died suddenly at the age of 4 in 2010.

Experts believe there may be fewer than 25,000 polar bears left in the world, said Polar Bears International, a conservation group.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 2008.
