The Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield said Pat Brown, the actress portraying Mary Todd Lincoln, will be served with a summons to appear in court in Chicago Sept. 24 and in Springfield on Oct. 1. Advertisement The organizations said the trial, which will feature modern-day lawyers and judges acting in accordance with current laws, is part of a year-long series of events designed to educate about the life of Mary Todd Lincoln and the evolution of mental health laws in Illinois. Lincoln's son, Robert, accused her of insanity in 1875 and the ensuing trial ended with her being declared a "lunatic." A second trial a year later declared the widowed first lady sane and restored her control over her assets.
