MOSCOW, March 23 (UPI) -- The director of the plant that makes Russia's military uniforms said domestically grown hemp is not a viable alternative to imported fabrics.

Vladimir Kadenko, general director of the 43rd central experimental sewing plant, said hemp would be a poor choice of fabric for keeping a solider warm during the rough Russian winter, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

"In my opinion, uniforms made of hemp are unsuitable for our climate," Kadenko said. "These clothes are more suitable for a beach resort."
