13 kiss cow for breast cancer patient

ASHTABULA, Ohio, March 21 (UPI) -- Thirteen people kissed a Jersey cow to raise money for an Ohio couple with mounting medical bills.

The cow was supposed to receive just one smooch Monday morning, from the person who collected the most donations, but all 13 competitors ended up putting their lips on the 18-month-old Tatiana after an anonymous donor agreed to pony up $1,000 for the group kiss, The Star Beacon, Ashtabula, Ohio, reported Wednesday.

The event outside the Conneaut Telephone Co.'s transmission facility on East Main Road in Conneaut raised more than $8,000 for Pat and Marty Landon, a Conneaut couple facing steep medical bills after Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall.

Marty Landon said he was acting on behalf of his wife when he kissed the cow Monday.

"She wanted to come to thank the cow, but couldn't make it," he said of his wife. "Pat's going to be all right."
