Train delayed when crew left behind

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, March 20 (UPI) -- Transportation officials in New Zealand said a commuter train was stopped for a half-hour while on a run Monday so some of its crew could catch up.

Passengers on the 4:47 p.m. commuter train from Wellington to Upper Hutt said the train stopped at the Ngauranga station and remained in place for about half an hour until four crew members arrived in a car and boarded the vehicle, The Dominion Post reported Monday.

Sophie Lee, a spokeswoman for Tranz Metro, said the train left Wellington with "insufficient crew."

"I'm not sure how it happened, but we had to hold the service until we could get the remaining crew out there," Lee said.

A passenger said the train left Wellington about 30 seconds earlier than its scheduled departure time.

"While I was sitting there I realized there were people on the platform pushing the buttons to get into the train and the doors refused to open and then it left," the passenger said.

Lee said the results of an investigation into the incident would be made public Tuesday.

Minn. firefighters douse flames in drag

PADUA, Minn., March 20 (UPI) -- Two male firefighters didn't let their off-the-shoulder, floor-length dresses stop them from doing their duty during the weekend, Minnesota fire officials say.

Sauk Centre Fire Chief John Egan told WCCO-TV, Minneapolis, the two Sedan Fire Department firefighters were dressed in drag for Saturday's parade in Padua.

Despite the "hot" numbers they were wearing -- one a bright coral gown and the other turquoise -- the two firefighters jumped into action when flames erupted from a nearby pickup truck and spread to a second vehicle. They used a fire hose to extinguish the blaze.

Stolen ambulance driven more than 40 miles

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., March 20 (UPI) -- Someone stole an ambulance from outside a hospital in Atlantic City, N.J., and drove it to a bar about 40 miles away, police said.

Atlantic City police Detective Edward Riege said the ambulance was stolen early Sunday from the emergency room entrance at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Investigators used a Global Positioning System tracker to follow the stolen vehicle, the Press of Atlantic City reported Monday.

Riege said the man stopped at Larry's Bar in Millville, more than 40 miles from the hospital, before abandoning the ambulance nearby.

Man takes tutu pics for breast cancer

NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- A New York photographer said his wife's bout with breast cancer inspired him to pose in a tutu in locations including Italy and New York's Times Square.

Bob Carey said he first took a picture of himself wearing a tutu as a joke when he finished a ballet-related project in 2003 and the joke became a full-blown project later in the year when his wife, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

"Bob is not like a lot of men," Linda said. "He's not afraid to put himself in a vulnerable spot."

Carey, who said the project helped him "cope" with Linda's illness, said he has since posed wearing nothing but the tutu and a pair of pink shorts in locations including Atlantic City, N.J., a Delaware ferry, New York's Times Square and Italy.

Carey said he is hoping his Web site, thetutuproject.com, will gather enough donations to collect the photographs into a book. He said the book would raise funds for breast cancer research.

"My wife really wants to inspire other women," he said. "She's been doing this for eight and a half years now. She's really a miracle."
