MAPLE GROVE, Minn., March 15 (UPI) -- A Minnesota woman said she arrived at the hospital for the birth of her third child, but the baby refused to wait for her to enter the building.

Elissa Simonson said she and her husband, Josh, were walking up the sidewalk Tuesday outside Maple Grove Hospital when she realized her labor wouldn't last long enough to make it to the door, KARE-TV, Minneapolis, reported Thursday.

"I remember onlookers, and I remember thinking 'Hey, I gotta keep my jacket here for some kind of privacy,'" Simonson said. "There's guys walking on the sidewalk, and then she was just there. It boggles my mind."

Josh ran into the hospital for help, but baby McKenna Rose was already born by the time he returned less than a minute later. The baby was taken inside, where she weighed in at just over 5 pounds.

"Thinking back, it could've been something scary but being able to be there, just us two, it was pretty special," Simonson said.
