OGDEN, Utah, March 15 (UPI) -- Police in Utah said an 8-year-old boy who crashed his parents' car into a tree told officers he was taking his 5-year-old sister to the store.

Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle said the boy and his sister climbed into the car and drove off around 2 a.m. Thursday and a police officer noticed the car crashed into a tree a short time later, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday.

The children, who were not injured, were still inside the vehicle. The boy told police he had taken his parents' car because his sister needed to go to the store.

Police said the children's parents were asleep and did not know the kids had left. No criminal charges are expected, police said.
