PHOENIX, March 15 (UPI) -- Emergency responders in Phoenix said a baby was born at the side of the freeway when the parents realized they wouldn't make it to the hospital.

Scott Walker of the Phoenix Fire Department said the parents, whose names were not released, were driving on the Loop 101 freeway near Seventh Avenue on their way to a hospital when they realized they would not make it in time for the birth, KPHO-TV, Phoenix, reported Thursday.

Walker told KNXV-TV, Phoenix, the father was delivering the baby at the side of the road when paramedics and fire crews arrived.

KTVK-TV, Phoenix, reported the mother and baby boy were taken to Arrowhead Hospital where they were said to be doing fine.
