UDDEVALLA, Sweden, March 13 (UPI) -- Swedish police said a man arrested on suspicion of diesel theft managed to steal a patrol car before stealing his own car back from an impound lot.

Police said two men were arrested on suspicion of using a car with a specially built tank to steal diesel fuel and one of the men managed to drive off in a patrol car, which had been left running, while the other suspect was being frisked, The Local reported Tuesday.

Investigators said police used the GPS tracker on the car to pursue the suspect, but he had abandoned the vehicle in favor of a different vehicle by the time they found the cruiser.

Police said the man then drove to police headquarters in Uddevalla, where he broke into the impound lot and stole his own specially modified car back.

Police found the man at his mother's house, where officers said he violently resisted arrest.
