Polar bears court at Detroit Zoo

March 13, 2012 at 3:39 PM

DETROIT, March 13 (UPI) -- Officials at the Detroit Zoo said love may be in the air for female polar bear Talini and a male on loan from the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Bob Lessnau, curator of mammals at the zoo, said Talini and male polar bear Nuka appear to be taking a liking to one another, WWJ-TV, Detroit, reported Tuesday.

"The two are always together, swimming and playing," Lessnau said.

He said officials tried to get Talini to mate with a male two years ago, but she rejected his advances. Lessnau said the latest effort is showing more positive signs.

Lessnau said if the polar bears mate, there could be a baby born at the zoo as early as November.
