NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- A New York art gallery has raised the ire of parents by putting photos of a nude woman in windows facing an elementary school.

Parents of students at PS 42, located across the street from the Dino Eli Gallery in Manhattan's Lower East Side, said they were outraged when the gallery installed photos of a nude woman in the gallery's front window, which faces the school, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"It's pretty obscene for being around a school," said Yvonne Tsang, 28, who has a first-grader at the school. "It's outrageous that it's here. It shouldn't be around this school. Art is art to express yourself, but not around a school. I would be extremely upset if my daughter saw these photos."

Dino Eli, owner of the gallery, said the installation by artist Lea Jeffire, titled "Squirrel Soup," is not obscene.

"We're not dealing with pornography here. These are breasts -- every woman has them," Eli told the Post.

Eli said he has met with school officials, but no agreements were reached.

"We had a meeting inside the school, a short meeting in which we just don't agree," Eli said.
