PUNTA GORDA, Fla., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Florida authorities said a man suffered minor injuries when a fire hose came loose from a truck headed for a call and began thrashing around behind the vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a Charlotte County fire truck was responding to a call Monday afternoon in Punta Gorda when one of its hoses came loose and flailed about, striking nine mailboxes and sending one of them on a collision course with a man standing in his yard, the Fort Myers News-Press reported Tuesday.

William Van Dornick, 50, was transported to Peace River Medical Center with minor leg injuries.
