Man arrested with TV in pants
EAGAN, Minn., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A Minnesota man was charged for allegedly trying to leave a store with a 19-inch TV in his pants, police said.
Eric Lee King, 21, of Columbia Heights was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and fifth-degree felony possession of a controlled substance Friday in Dakota County District Court, St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
On Dec. 5, a police officer said he saw King drop a box of candy in a store parking lot in Eagan. But when the officer called out to King to alert him, King did not respond and the officer then noticed King was walking strangely.
The officer drove up to King and honked his horn to get his attention, but King still did not respond.
The officer got out of his car to confront King, who reached into his pants, prompting the officer to handcuff him.
After King was handcuffed, the officer noticed a large rectangular object in King's pants, which turned out to be a 19-inch, flat-screen television. The officer also found other items, including a remote control, power cords and a bottle of brake fluid, on King.
A bottle of Xanax pills allegedly was found in his pocket.
Jeremy Lin ice cream gets quick makeover
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Ben & Jerry's made an ethnic faux pas with its limited-edition Jeremy Lin-inspired frozen yogurt at its Harvard Square shop in Cambridge, Mass.
The flavor the ice cream company created for Lin, a Harvard graduate and a rookie sensation for the New York Knicks, dubbed "Taste the Lin-Sanity," featured fortune cookie pieces, which were quickly replaced by waffle pieces, The Boston Globe reported.
"There seemed to be a bit of an initial backlash about it, but we obviously weren't looking to offend anybody and the majority of the feedback about it has been positive," Ryan Midden, Ben & Jerry's general manager for Boston and Cambridge, said Friday.
Another problem, he said, was the fortune cookies got soggy too quickly.
The Harvard Square store will continue to sell the flavor through the end of Harvard's basketball season, Midden said.
"We are very excited to celebrate the Harvard basketball program, as well as a local celebrity with our limited-time batch,'' Midden said.
Marine wins jackpot after donating marrow
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A Marine who hit the jackpot on a penny slot in Las Vegas attributes his win to karma for donating bone marrow to someone in need.
"They asked me if I was sure I wanted to go through with it, because it's kind of painful, but what's a little pain if it will save someone's life?" Cpl. Alexander Degenhardt said, the Las Vegas Sun reported Sunday. "I look at this as kind of good karma for that."
Degenhardt won $2.8 million on the Money Vault Millionaires Seven slot at the Bellagio on Feb. 19, the Sun reported.
The Marine said he and several fellow Marines were in Las Vegas from Washington D.C., where he is stationed, for training at Nellis Air Force Base.
While waiting for their return flight, Degenhardt and some friends decided to kill a couple of hours at the casinos.
He said he didn't realize he had won. "Dude, what just happened?" Degenhardt remembers asking his friend.
"It's something you always want to happen, but when it does happen you don't believe it," he said.
