DARWIN, Australia, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A massive wedge-tailed eagle smashed through the windshield of a car in Australia's Northern Territory, injuring the vehicle's driver, police said.

The 72-year-old driver was near Mataranka, south of Darwin, when he hit the eagle. The eagle then struck the man in the head, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Sunday

Officers say the man was treated for scratches.

Wedge-tailed eagles can have a wing span of up to 8 feet.
