Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
CINCINNATI, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Christian leaders in Cincinnati and Rhode Island are offering ashes to go for those who wish to mark Ash Wednesday but are short on time.
The Rev. Patricia Anderson Cook of Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church in Cincinnati said she would put the ashes on the foreheads of motorists and give the accompanying blessing from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the church's parking lot, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Wednesday.
"We have two entrances and one exit," Cook said. "So we should be able to do this fairly quickly."
Meanwhile, the Rev. Jennifer Pedrick, rector of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in East Providence, R.I., and her assistant, the Rev. Edmund Harris, went to the Providence train station early Wednesday to distribute ashes to commuters and passersby, The Providence Journal reported.
Pedrick and Harris said they were thinking "outside the walls" because they knew many people would not have time to visit a church for Ash Wednesday.
