Irish landlord gets squatter's rights

DUBLIN, Ireland, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- An Irish man who broke into a deceased woman's home 30 years ago and has been renting out the property was granted squatter's rights by a court.

The city Supreme Court in Dublin ruled Desmond Grogan, who broke into the Enniskerry Road house in Dublin 30 years ago and has been collecting rent from tenants, has squatter's rights to the home and prosecutors can't obtain court orders to force him to give up the property, the Belfast (Northern Ireland) Telegraph reported Friday.

The house's previous owner, Alice Dolan, died in February 1982 at the age of 80 without leaving a will or any next of kin to claim the house.

One of the house's tenants told the Telegraph Grogan is an attentive landlord.

Russian armed robbers take 'sex doll'

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Russian police said three armed robbers held up a St. Petersburg shop early Friday and stole what was described as an inflatable sex doll.

Police told Russian-language Web site Lenta.ru the men entered the Pink Rabbit sex shop in downtown St. Petersburg around 6 a.m. and pointed a gun at the 35-year-old store clerk, RIA Novosti reported.

The men fled with the blow-up doll, the worker's cellphone and his e-book reader, police said.

Police: Woman faked blindness for benefits

TURIN, Italy, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Italian police said a woman who collected $309,000 in benefits by claiming to be blind was busted when she was seen window shopping.

Investigators said the 66-year-old woman was photographed walking through markets in a town near Turin while crossing streets and window browsing without assistance, ANSA reported Friday.

Police said the woman, who claimed to be totally blind to collect benefits, also signed a receipt without even putting on glasses.

Police said they sequestered the money in the woman's bank account and six properties belonging to her to ensure the government is reimbursed for the fraudulent benefits.

Police seek bathroom peeper

CYPRESS, Calif., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Police in California said they are working to identify a man who allegedly tried to take pictures or video of a female student in a bathroom at Cypress College.

The Cypress Police Department said the woman was using the bathroom just after 3 p.m. Monday when she saw a hand reach under the stall divider and point a cellphone at her, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The woman chased a man she saw fleeing from the adjacent stall and called police while running.

"She was calling us on the phone as she's running after the guy," officer Paulo Morales said. "She had her wits about her."

The suspect was able to elude the woman and arriving officers when he jumped a wall and made it to the busy Lincoln Avenue.

The suspect is described as Latino, about 200 pounds and 20 to 25 years old. The woman said he had dark hair with the sides of his head shaved.
