MOSCOW, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A spokeswoman for a Russian jewelry company said a 36-pound golden bust of Vladimir Putin will be created and then used to make heart-shaped pendants.
Anna Tolstykh, spokeswoman for the 585 jeweler company in St. Petersburg, said the company will display the bust of the prime minister for about a month and the gold will then be used to make the pendants, giving consumers a chance to own a "piece of Putin," RIA Novosti reported Friday.
Tolstykh said proceeds from the sale of the pendants will go toward a children's cancer charity.
She said Putin was chosen because he initiated construction of the Cancer and Immunology Research Medical Center in Moscow in 2005. She said the choice was not politically motivated.
"We are only pursuing good intentions," Tolstykh said.
