FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a man drank a bottle of liquid he claimed was poison when his guilty verdict was announced.
Marin Stroia, 60, was found guilty Thursday of bringing a gun to the Broward County courthouse Jan. 14, 2011, and threatening to kill himself because he was upset about a child support case, WFOR-TV, Miami, reported.
Stroia brandished a medicine bottle filled with liquid when the verdict was read and drank its contents before announcing it was poison and collapsing on the floor.
Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue spokesman Matt Little said Stroia was taken to the Broward General Medical Center, where his condition had not been reported.
The substance Stroia ingested has not yet been identified.
