Cat runs off in Michigan, found in Ohio

CENTERVILLE, Ohio, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- A cat that escaped from its family while they were passing through Michigan was found in Ohio, its rescuer said.

Everit Terhune, a longtime board member of the Humane Society, said he found the feline frightened and skinny behind a Centerville business recently and he took her to the shelter, where they found an implanted microchip from a Hawaii shelter, which put them in touch with the cat's family, WDTN-TV, Dayton, Ohio, reported Thursday.

The family said they were moving from Hawaii to Tennessee when the cat ran from the car at a Michigan rest stop.

"The husband waited at the rest stop for 6 hours, hoping she would show up, and she never did," said Elaine Allison, shelter manager for the Humane Society.

Allison said the cat will be returned to her family Saturday.
