JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a woman who awoke to the smell of smoke discovered a stranger attempting to cook in her kitchen.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the Neptune Beach woman woke up around 4 a.m. Monday to the smell of smoke and discovered a stranger, identified as David Kurlin, 41, attempting to cook frozen foods on the stove without removing them from their plastic packaging, the (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union reported Tuesday.
The woman locked herself in her room and called 911, investigators said.
Deputies said Kurlin, who was spotted by a neighbor while leaving the home, had the woman's purse over his shoulder when he was found by deputies.
Kurlin, who entered the home by removing the plastic from a dog door, allegedly told deputies he had been partying with four or five other people and decided to cook some food once they went home.
