YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Russia, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A spokesman for a Russian airport said a woman gave birth during a flight from Moscow to the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
A spokesman for the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport said Aigul Kochorova, 45, went into labor about an hour before the end of the 8 1/2-hour flight and a midwife aboard the plane assisted with the delivery, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.
The spokesman said an ambulance was waiting on the tarmac to take Kochorova, who has three previous children, and her new baby to a hospital.
