Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe CROWN POINT, Ind., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- An Indiana man who left jury duty without permission was forced to carry the message "I failed to appear for jury duty" on a sign outside the courthouse Monday. Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr. ordered the man, whose name was not reported, to display the sign as he walked around the Lake County, Ind., courthouse, punishment for improperly leaving the selection pool of prospective jurors after lunch Dec. 5. Court officials released the man after an hour, the Chicago Tribune reported. Advertisement He is required to return next week for another sign-holding tour of the grounds. The 22 year-old man did not speak with reporters and attempted to hide his face from cameras. A secretary for Stefaniak said the judge had arranged a similar penalty for previous case of avoiding jury duty.
