WALLACE, Idaho, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Authorities in Idaho said they successfully disposed of an old -- and live -- hand grenade, found as part of a deceased man's property.

A resident of Wallace, Idaho, investigating the property of a relative who had recently died, reported the explosive to the Shoshone County's Sheriff's Office, which determined it was an armed U.S.-issued Mk. II fragmentation grenade used in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

The Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the U.S. Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., 80 miles away.

Using explosives, the team successfully disposed of the grenade in a controlled explosion at a nearby shooting range, the Sheriff's Office said.

The (Spokane, Wash.) Spokesman-Review reported no other explosives were found in the dead man's property, and deputies were attempting to determine how the man obtained the grenade.
