Expert: Ballet, yoga good for bull riding

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A champion bull rider told children attending a rodeo camp in Texas that ballet and yoga can be helpful training tools for his sport.

Tate Stratton, a two-time competitor in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Championship, told the children at the association's rodeo camp Sunday at the Fort Worth Stock Show that ballet and yoga can be a good way to improve strength and balance when training for bull riding, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday.

"I do yoga; it's calming and helps with balance ... . Nerves will get to you," Stratton said. "You have to calm yourself down, relax and not worry about what's about to happen. Then you'll have a better shot at success."

Stratton said perseverance is also an important aspect of bull riding.

"Nothing is impossible if you desire it enough. It's been proven," he said. "As long as my hand is still in that rope, I still have a chance."
