BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A Florida congregation preparing to move into a closed-down strip club said it received a $12,000 donation from a megachurch.
Eglise Assemblee Evangelique de Christ, a 250-strong congregation of mostly Haitian-Americans, paid $600,000 in May to buy the former home of Platinum Showgirls at 1115 N. Federal Highway and has since fallen on difficult financial times while working to fix up the space to the satisfaction of Boynton Beach city officials, The Palm Beach Post reported Friday.
Pierre Dumont, pastor of Eglise Assemblee, said Leo Abdella, a pastor and director of community relations for the Christ Fellowship megachurch in Palm Beach Gardens, visited the site the day after reading an article about Eglise Assemblee's financial hardships.
"He didn't know our church," Dumont said. "When he came in, he said, 'God is going to use this place to a good cause.'"
Dumont said Abdella gave him a $12,000 donation from the Christ Fellowship.
"Oh, Lord. I cannot explain it," Dumont said. "For us, we consider this as a miracle."
