Colbert super PAC runs self-attack ads

CHARLESTON, S.C., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Fake-news funny man Stephen Colbert's former super PAC is running ads in South Carolina that add to the chaos and confusion of the campaign-finance debate.

The super PAC, now controlled by colleague Jon Stewart after Colbert announced his bid to become "president of the United States of South Carolina," appears to attack Colbert in what The Christian Science Monitor calls a "reverse flip."

In the ad, funded by the "Definitely Not Coordinating with Stephen Colbert Super PAC," narrator Samuel L. Jackson says, "America is in crisis, and Stephen Colbert is turning our election into a circus.

"And come on, why is the 'T' in his name silent? What else is he silent about? Letting murderers out of jail?" Jackson asks.

"Now a super PAC that he founded is running attack ads against him just so they'll think they're not coordinating!"

Jackson concludes the ad by asking voters in the South Carolina Republican presidential primary to send Colbert a message by voting for former Godfathers Pizza Chief Executive Officer Herman Cain, who dropped out of the race Dec. 3.

"A vote for Herman Cain would be a strong message to me that voters want me to run," Colbert said on his show Wednesday, fueling the flames over what it means when candidates say they are not coordinating with the super PACs that support them.
