IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Members of a California fitness club said they are upset by the provocative photos put up by new owner Equinox.

A club representative said the photos posted at the former Sports Club/LA in Irvine are the same pictures hung at locations across the country "to reflect our brand: provocative, sexy, edgy, aspirational and inspiring," The Orange County (Calif.) Register reported Tuesday.

However, 20-year member Angelo Paparelli said the photos, which were posted Jan. 2, "focus on sex and objectification of women."

Paparelli and other members said they were particularly upset by a photo of a half-dressed male lying on top of a female at the entrance of the fitness center's kids club.

City spokesman Craig Reem said officials have received complaints about the club.

"The city received complaints that the signage is offensive; we issued a code enforcement notice for the sign to be removed.(by Jan. 19 because) it is a non-permitted sign visible from the exterior of the building that is not part of an approved sign program," Reem said.
