STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A prosecutor in Sweden questioned the acquittal of a defendant after a judge fell asleep twice during a fraud trial.
The trial involved one of Stockholm's top civil servants, who was charged with signing off on fake invoices totaling nearly $36,000, the daily newspaper Metro reported, Sweden's TT news agency said.
"I don't know if the [judge] in question was particularly tired or something to that effect. This just simply should not happen," regional prosecutor Nils-Eric Schultz said.
The defendant was acquitted after the court said there wasn't enough evidence to prove the invoices were fake.
Schultz said the judge had been asleep while the defendant was being questioned and each time the judge fell asleep, the trial was interrupted.
