Memphis Zumba record falls short

MEMPHIS, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Participants in a failed world record attempt for largest Zumba workout in Memphis said they are just happy to be getting fit.

The attempt, organized by Get Fit Memphis, which is run by the non-profit Telisa Franklin Ministries, gathered only 150 people to perform the dance workout Monday at the Raleigh Springs Mall, far short of the 2,012 participants who set the world record in Britain last June, The (Memphis) Commercial-Appeal reported Tuesday.

Organizer Telisa Franklin told the gathered crowd she was not disappointed with the turnout.

"Let's just have fun," Franklin said. "Think about a healthier life, because we can change the way people feel about Memphis."

Franklin said she is planning a second attempt.

"We didn't do it, but we're going to try again," she said.
