NAPLES, Fla., Dec. 25 (UPI) -- A cat who ran away from his adopted Florida home was found 2,000 miles away in Golden, Colo., its owner said.

Daniel Johns, who regularly visited Waylon, a 1-year-old Tabby, at Florida's Collier County Domestic Animal Services, adopted the cat just before its 90-day stay was to end in June, the Naples (Fla.) Daily News reported.

Cats like to hide and after Waylon arrived at his new home in Goodland, Fla., he hid behind the clothes dryer. The following day, Johns found a hole in the dryer vent and his cat gone, the newspaper said this week.

Fast-forward from June to Christmas when Johns received a special gift in the form of Waylon who was found 2,000 miles away in Golden, Colo.

An unnamed good Samaritan found Waylon wandering in the snow and brought him to the Foothills Animal Shelter Wednesday morning, the newspaper said.

A microchip implanted by the Florida animal shelter enabled the shelter in the Denver suburb to reconnect Johns and Waylon.

"It's awesome," said Johns, the executive chef at the Marco Island Yacht Club. "Now I know what happened, or don't know, but there's an ending to the story and it's not terribly sad."
